讲座简介

To modeling land surface processes and associated feedback we have developed four generations of the Simplified Simple Biosphere Model (SSiB) during the past three decades. The SSiB version 1 (SSiB-1) is a biophysically based model that provides estimates of fluxes in surface radiation, momentum, sensible heat, and latent heat, as well as runoff, soil moisture, etc. To avoid the iterations that sometimes cause the divergence in solution, the semi-analytical approach has been developed in SSiB-2. Because the climate change has big impact on the cold regions, a three layer snow model with the consideration of aerosol effect on the snow albedo and a frozen module have also been developed in SSiB-3.To study the full interactions between land and atmosphere, in SSiB-4, a dynamic vegetation model is introduced.

主讲人简介

Professor Yongkang Xue from the Departments of Geography and Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is interested in land surface and Earth System modeling, land/atmosphere interactions, climate variability, anomalies, and change, regional climate downscaling, and remote sensing. Prof. Xue has done lots of interesting work in developing four generations of land model (SSiB),studying numerical sensitivity and prediction studies by using the Earth System Model to investigate the interactions between atmosphere-ocean-land-surface processes and developing regional climate models to study dynamic downscaling ability under different conditions. And Prof. Xue has got American Meteorological Society Fellow honor in 2017 for his brilliant work.
