Ice clouds play an important role in regulating the Earth's radiative budget and influencing the hydrological cycle. Aerosols can scatter and/or absorbsolar radiation and change the local circulation (especially the vertical motion), thus affecting the moisture source for ice cloud formation. Aerosols can also act as solution droplets or ice nuclei for ice crystal formation and change the physical properties of ice clouds. To disentangle the complex interactions and obtain detailed process-level understanding, we propose various new modeling strategies to quantify the dynamical and microphysical impact of natural and anthropogenic aerosols on ice clouds and their radiative effects. The focus on short time scales facilitates comparison with observations and substantially reduces the computational cost. We show examples using one global aerosol-climate model to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. Results from the AeroCom inter-comparison of anthropogenic aerosol indirect effect on ice clouds will be also discussed.
主讲人简介
张恺,美国能源部太平洋西北国家实验室研究员。主要研究方向为大气模式中气溶胶和冰云的参数化,气溶胶对天气和气候的潜在影响,以及高分辨率大气模式中水和能量循环的模拟和检验。2004-2008年在大气物理所学习。2006-2007参加中科院-马普协会联合培养项目,在德国马普气象研究所学习。2008-2011年在德国马普气象研究所做博士后研究; 2011年至今,在美国能源部太平洋西北国家实验室工作,主要研究气候模式中冰云的微物理过程参数化的发展与检验和气溶胶对冰云的影响。目前主要从事美国能源部地球系统模式中大气模式的研发与检验,以及冰云对水和能量循环影响的研究。(详细信息:http://www.pnnl.gov/science/staff/staff_info.asp?staff_num=7659)
