讲座简介:
The world’s 540 river systems are analyzed using a coupled socio-ecological system approach under multiple risks. Those risks are quantified using the multiplicative approach promoted by United Nations Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and IPCC. They are due to ten stressors (variability, overuse, groundwater depletion, floods, droughts, organic pollution, salinity, eutrophication, inadequate drinking water, lack of sanitation), human exposure and lack of adaptive capacity (vulnerability). Concerning the population facing these risks, lack of appropriate sanitation scored highest, followed by droughts and eutrophication. The large and densely populated Asian basins, Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna, Indus, and Yangtze, topped, followed by the largest African basins (the Nile, Niger, and Congo/Zaire). The other top ten basins were Rajasthan Inner Basins, Huang, Hai, and Myanmar South Coastal Basins. The proposed coupled approach provides new perspectives by merging the Social-Ecological Systems approach with the risk analysis-based management framework used increasingly by various prominent organizations such as the IPCC and United Nations.
